Los Angeles Printers Fair

Wooden Type letterpress plate
Letterpress love is alive in Los Angeles! Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the First Los Angeles Printers Fair at the International Printing Museum in Carson, California. It was a joy to smell the ink, see the beautiful machines, witness demonstrations and even get to work a press myself. We have worked with letterpress printing for years but it was wonderful to get an up-close-and-personal look at the magic.

There is such a rich history to the printing industry. I highly recommend checking out the museum for inspiration, history, and a look at the art of printing. Many people train for years to elegantly operate presses both young and old. The museum does a great job of displaying historic machines but also has many resources for current printers. I can’t wait to take a class, learn how to set my own type, and make timeless masterpieces myself.

Enjoy these “action shots” of my first attempt at letterpress!

So happy you enjoyed the fair and the printing demo I did at the museum. I’m thrilled to have helped you crank your first print on a Vandercook machine! Great action shots!
